3 Kindle Fire Apps to Teach Kids Money Skills

The world economy lately has given us all a quick and brutal lesson in financial planning. Namely, it is important to understand how your money works and how to best safe for the future. We are learning more and more about being prepared, and how bad it can be if we are unprepared when economic hard times hit. It turns out that the best time to learn about managing money is when you are still a kid. We aren’t born as savers or spenders, we learn from examples.

Most of us only have the example of our parents, and possibly we pick up some tips from our bank or credit card company, if we’re lucky. But today there are so many resources out there it is a shame not to take advantage of them. Educational tools are evolving all the time, and a simple reward system isn’t necessarily enough. You can teach your kid to save their allowance so they can afford to buy a toy they want, but learning to save for the long term is more complex than that.

Fortunately, there are some great Kindle Fire Apps that teach kids about the importance of saving and managing money, although they don’t necessarily make your kid feel like they’re experiencing a lecture on the topic. Below are reviews on some of the money skills Kindle Fire Apps for kids on the market.

Kindle fire kids apps1. My First Money

Price: $0.99

My First Money - Aprendium

This application is the most basic way to teach your kids about the use of money. There aren’t many options in the Kindle Fire for kids app store that teach them to add and subtract money based on coin values. This app does provide a nice skill lesson, and there are some fun aspects for the child, such as being able to add up and use coins to purchase things. Sadly, there are very few things to keep a child engaged in this app after the first few rounds. For just .99 cents you aren’t losing a lot if you buy this app, but don’t expect miracles with these types of Kindle Fire Apps for Kids.

Beneficial Features:
• Basic counting and adding
• Teaches familiarity with coins and money
• Teaches familiarity with purchasing items for prices

Angry Birds Space HD™ Rocks the Kindle Fire Games World

Amazon Price: $2.99

Angry Birds Space - Rovio Mobile Ltd.

For a long time, Angry Birds was the top game in the Apple App store, and held similar ranking in the Android App store. A couple of the updates to the game made it more fun, but didn’t change the game to make it better. On March 22, Rovio Entertainment finally released the newest version, and it truly is the next evolutionary step for the game.

Reviews coming in are almost entirely positive. Everyone is excited about Angry Birds anyway, and now with the NASA twist, the game becomes even more fun than before. Angry Birds Space reviewers are calling it fresh and just as addictive as before. The only complaints are about the fact that it doesn’t have enough levels – people want more of this game, and probably nothing will ever be enough.

Angry Birds Features:

• New story line as the battle between Angry Birds and evil pigs moves into outer space and the conditions of play are different due to zero gravity.
• Incorporates scientific concepts like gravitational pull from planets in the vicinity. Tracer lines help players to adjust and even use the gravitational forces to their benefit.
• NASA approved visuals of actual space physics.
• Bonus content including Eggsteroids, new levels, and some new versions of classic game play.

Angry Birds Space for Kids

And Angry Birds isn’t just for grown ups. Kids can have fun with the game, too, and they have the opportunity to learn a little bit about space, gravity, and the complexity of coordination between actions and results. Everyone seems to love this app, even kids who find it difficult at first. Within a short amount of time, kids grasp the basic tools given and experience success.

Angry Birds Space HD ™ is the hottest game to hit the app market in a while. The original Angry Birds game was so incredibly popular that the Space version was sure to be an instant success. But it looks like the folks at Rovio Entertainment didn’t just sit back and relax. This game was designed to be an upgrade, a new challenge, and a more interesting way to incorporate the battle of the birds with interactive entertainment.

Your kids are sure to love Angry Birds Space HD ™ and they’ll be learning things without even realizing it. What will be most fun is that this is a way you and your kids can both enjoy a little healthy competition.

Our Review:

Counting is just a very basic Kindle Fire Apps for Kids. Do not expect more in this game other than basic counting activities. If you have little ones that are just starting to recognize numbers, this is a good app for them. However, be on the lookout for bugs too. There are quite a few bugs in this app that still need fixing.
